Spreading the Science of Krishna Consciousness
ISKCON belongs to the Gaudiya-Vaishnava Sampradaya, a monotheistic tradition within the Vedic or Hindu culture. Philosophically, it is based on the Sanskrit texts Bhagavad-gita and the Bhagavata Purana, or Srimad Bhagavatam. These are the historic texts of the devotional bhakti yoga tradition, which teaches that the ultimate goal for all living beings is to reawaken their love for God, or Lord Krishna, the "all-attractive one."
ISKCON Sankhari is part of this global network of temples and communities, working to spread Krishna consciousness through temple worship, distribution of sanctified food (prasadam), public chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra, and dissemination of Vedic literature.
Since its founding in 1966, ISKCON has established more than 600 centers worldwide, including temples, rural communities, and vegetarian restaurants. The movement has also sponsored major festivals around the world, published translations of the Bhagavad-gita and other Vedic literature in over 80 languages, and established educational institutions.
At ISKCON Sankhari, we've served thousands of meals through our Food for Life program, conducted numerous spiritual education programs, and provided a place of worship and community for devotees in the Balasore region. Our impact extends beyond religious activities to include charitable work, environmental initiatives, and cultural preservation.
THE PROCESS OF KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS WORKS THROUGH THE PRACTICE OF BHAKTI YOGA, WHICH INCLUDES:
- HEARING ABOUT KRISHNA (SRAVANAM)
- CHANTING HIS NAMES (KIRTANAM)
- REMEMBERING HIM (SMARANAM)
- SERVING HIS LOTUS FEET (PADA-SEVANAM)
- WORSHIPING HIM (ARCANAM)
- PRAYING TO HIM (VANDANAM)
- SERVING HIM (DASYAM)
- BEING HIS FRIEND (SAKHYAM)
- SURRENDERING EVERYTHING TO HIM (ATMA-NIVEDANAM)
THROUGH THESE NINE PROCESSES, ONE CAN REVIVE THEIR DORMANT LOVE FOR GOD AND ATTAIN SPIRITUAL PERFECTION.
